An assignment for Litho II last year, we had to do a larger-than-life portrait of one of our heroes. I was stumped for the longest time for who to draw, when I remembered how much I loved Amelia Earhart when I was younger. One exhaustive google and library search later, I could only turn up a teeny tiny little pixelated version of this photo, but I was determined to use this image because it's my all-time favorite photo of her. She just looks so happy.
This is actually the second state of this print; in the first state the background wash filled in horribly and the roll-up was all streaky and weird. I counter-etched it, redid the washes and her jacket, and tried again, with much better results. I accidentally burned out all of the shading on her face, but I kind of like the over-exposed photo look to it.
Stone lithograph, E. V., 15"x20", 14 impressions.
