Update, update

  • Mood: Lazy
  • Reading: Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons
  • Drinking: The nectar of the gods
Well, okay, it's not much of an update.

Long story short: Fanime was fantastic, AX was awesome, I'm going to Comic-Con in two weeks (HOLY SHIT I'M GOING TO COMIC-CON), and then I'm going to spend the rest of my summer all depressed that the fun is over.

Part of the reason I've been MIA is that I just moved (to another house like a mile down the road from my old one, go figure), and I didn't get my computer set up until now because I've been so busy with cosplay/con stuff. We also got a dog! I rambled a bit about her in my livejournal, but she's a black lab, about a year and a half old. Her name is May, and she's a right royal pain in the ass because she's a teenager testing her limits to see what she can get away with.

If people are interested, I can post some cosplay pictures on my LJ. I probably won't do a full con report because I'm spectacularly lazy, but the thought's always there.

I do have a LOT of pictures to scan (40+, no, really), but my scanner is currently out of commission because of those friggin' TWAIN interface problems again. Hopefully that will be cleared up soon and I can get to scanning.

<3 to you all!

This is definitely "dolphingirl", am I right or am I right?

If I am somehow wrong, then please ignore me :D

If I am right, so what happened to MOB and how long ago was it that it vanished off the face of the Earth?

And as usual, beautiful pieces.
:iconrabid-potato:
Hey Joyce!
Long time no talk to. And yes, it's still me, despite the handle change.

Hmm, where to start with MOB...well, there wasn't any drama or anything. Basically what happened was that participation had been dropping off for a long time already, which led to delays in posting each month as I tried to drum up enough entries to even meet the minimum number for places. Added to this was the problem of spambots attacking the MOB:TWC comment sections even after we disabled comments, which constantly flooded the mail server to the point where I couldn't even access it.

At the time (late 2003) I was starting my first year of college and I just couldn't deal with the MOB on top of classes and all kinds of personal garbage, so I unfortunately just sort of abandoned it. It's my fault that I never formally closed the site, which I still regret.

I haven't been able to contact Charlotte for years now, so I don't know what happened to the old site or if she even still owns amphisbaena.com- it redirects to a Swedish art site which may or may not be hers.

I still love the concept and I loved the old community, so I've been kicking around the idea of starting it back up again for a while now (possibly on dA), but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to drum up enough interest to keep it going- my thinking is that with the MAG gone too, the time of the monthlies is past. I know at least two old MOBsters who would be interested in a restart, but two people just simply isn't enough. If I could get a consistent group of people who were willing to spread the word, it would be worth it for me because I'm out of school and I actually have the time now that would be needed to devote to the next generation of the MOB.

I hope you at least have some fond memories of MOB. I know I do, and I appreciate that so many people put their time and effort into making it a great place to hang out and make art.
